February 9, 2011, Image Entertainment Corporation celebrated its 10th anniversary at the storied Auberge Saint-Gabriel in Old Montreal, basking in a family sea of creators, managers and mentors as well as several sponsors and partners. Two networks were also present – Radio-Canada and Teletoon.
Those who couldn’t be present, such as Cartoon Network Latin America, which is broadcasting Walter and Tandoori during its marathon tribute to Earth Day in April and Branscome International, which is responsible for the international distribution of the series, sent congratulatory messages to IEC founder and president Sylvain Viau and to the members of his team for their capacity to both amuse and broadcast a powerful awareness message about the health of the planet.
Blending perfectly into the screenplay for the evening, Mrs. France Desharnais, representative of the international consulting firm of Ernst &Young was on hand to present a special commemorative plaque to Mr. Viau and his team because he, in late fall, 2010 had won the coveted Ernst & Young 2010 Grand Prix in the “Media and Entertainment” category.
In paying tribute to the company’s many friends and contributors over the years, Mr. Viau literally drew his guests into the history, showing a powerful performance of highlight achievements by IEC, starting with the precursor to Walter - Mr. Ecolo, a Chaplin-like character in black and white and his somewhat tumultuous adventures and misadventures to save the planet, produced in collaboration with the National Film Board. Marcel-Romain Thériault, the co-creator of the character was also present. As technology has progressed over the last decade, Image Entertainment’s creative capacity has matched strides with the pace and its productions reflect this. This was illustrated before the gathering with the video clips of such CIE productions as Totally Spies, Martin Mystery, Monster Buster Club, Team Galaxy, Amazing Spiez and Walter & Tandoori. At the end of the evening, M. Viau, with extreme gratitude, thanked the principal sponsors: Vision Globale, TTK, Deschamps Studio and Studio Digilog. As the curtain was about to fall on the evening’s events, he announced that Walter and Tandoori have been sold in more than 40 countries and that more important news would soon be announced concerning the company and its first feature film, Walter’s Christmas.
